Did you know that digestive system anatomy consists of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract and the accessory organs. The gastrointestinal tract is the physical pathway in which food travels through the body to be processed and digested while the accessory organs aid in digestion by adding digestive enzymes. Follow the path food takes through the body from mouth to anus by dissecting a fetal pig and identifying the various parts of the digestive system.
The digestive system is just one topic in Experience Anatomy’s 4-part dissection series intended to explore the wonders of the human body. The entire series will expose participants to the cardiovascular, nervous, visual and digestive system. Participants will assess their own physiology, examine preserved human organs, and dissect animal tissue to ensure ideas are processed in an interactive format.
Course material is intended for learners ages 12-18 and parents are encouraged to accompany younger participants. Join us to Experience Anatomy!
The Discovering Anatomy Dissection Series is sponsored by Culture Blocks – a community partnership funded by Mecklenburg County.
