Did you know the heart does more physical work than any other muscle in the body over a lifetime? The heart pumps on average over 100,000 times per day to continuously distribute oxygen and nutrients to every corner of the body. Dissect a pig heart in this course to identify the anatomy that allows the heart to work as an effective pump. We will also look at multiple human specimens to see natural variation as well as pathologies.
The cardiovascular system is just one topic in Experience Anatomy’s 4-part dissection series intended to explore the wonders of the human body. The entire series will expose participants to the cardiovascular, nervous, visual and digestive system. Participants will assess their own physiology, examine preserved human organs, and dissect animal tissue to ensure ideas are processed in an interactive format.
Course material is intended for learners ages 12-18 and parents are encouraged to accompany younger participants. Join us to Experience Anatomy!
The Discovering Anatomy Dissection Series is sponsored by Culture Blocks – a community partnership funded by Mecklenburg County.
